Let's take a look at this picture. With a wide blue sky and dense greenery, you might think that this is a beautiful landscape shot of a scene, right? But in fact, JM Steel is here to tell you that this is not a landscape photo, but a mirror image made of a stainless steel mirror plate reflection.
Stainless steel mirror plate is made of stainless steel only, but why can they achieve such a magical visual experience?
It turns out that this is a stainless steel plate by mirror polishing the initial surface of BA, 2B or No. 1 stainless steel plate polished into a mirror-like surface (scientific name 8K mirror or No. 8).
What is 8K mirror surface?
The literal definition of 8K: The corrosion resistance of stainless steel depends on its alloy composition (chromium, nickel, titanium, silicon, manganese, etc.) and internal organization, of which the decisive role is played by the element chromium, which can form a passivation film on the surface of the steel, so that the metal is isolated from the outside world without oxidation, enhancing the corrosion resistance of the steel plate. The "8" in 8K refers to the proportion of alloying ingredients (304 stainless steel mainly refers to the content of nickel elements), "K" refers to the grade of reflectivity achieved after polishing process (K level for the mirror reflective grade). 8K mirror is also known as chromium-nickel alloy steel reflected by the mirror grade.
8K mirror definition: stainless steel surface after grinding and polishing, the surface is as bright as a mirror, shining objects reflecting people, commonly known as mirror 8K, which has corrosion resistance; and mirror plate is the processing of subsequent color or etched plate substrate. Mainly used in all kinds of decoration or metal optical products use.
--Expansion
The common mirror stainless steel is also derived from 6K, 10K, 12K, etc. due to the different degree of fineness required by customers, and is "defined" as the larger the number, the higher the fineness of its mirror surface.
Why use 8k mirror stainless steel?
Stainless steel mirror plate is the most common and most popular stainless steel decorative plate. In life, you can see it almost everywhere. "Mirror" refers to the surface state of stainless steel, like a mirror can reflect light, illuminate the human shadow. Common stainless steel mirror plate is divided into: ordinary 8K, fine grinding 8K, 10K. 6K refers to coarse grinding polished mirror plate, its effect is a little worse than the mirror; 10K refers to fine grinding polished mirror plate, comparable to ordinary mirrors; and 12K refers to ultra-fine grinding polished mirror plate, can meet the optical purposes. The higher the value, the higher the reflectivity, the higher the brightness, and at the same time the better the quality of the plate, the less or no grinding head spend.
What are the applications of 8k mirror stainless steel?
Stainless steel mirror plate has a wide range of uses, architectural decoration, interior decoration, office decoration, elevator decoration, industrial decoration, equipment decoration and other various decoration, decoration, decoration fields are widely used.
But no matter which degree, which steel mirror plate, so far there is no unified standard, just the higher the brightness, the greater the reflectivity, the less surface defects (white spots, pinhole, orange peel pattern, water ripples, etc.), the more it can be recognized by customers. In fact, this is entirely a strategy to meet people's desire for the market to have a more demanding expectation of demand, and does not have much practical significance. The same high brightness can all be collectively referred to as 8K.
How to get a mirror effect on stainless steel?
With years of experience in stainless steel processing and polishing , let JM Steel tell you what to do.
First, it must be to choose a piece of stainless steel plate of reliable quality.
The main stainless steel mirror plate products are: 201 stainless steel mirror plate, 304 stainless steel mirror plate, 316 stainless steel mirror plate and various series of color stainless steel mirror plate, etc.. So, 304,316,201 grade stainless steel will be your good choice.
JM Steel focus on selling stainless steel for more than ten years, is a quality stainless steel manufacturer, we have a full range of services to help you can choose the stainless steel products you like.
Next, you will need to take the next three steps to complete the product.
Step 1: Smoothing/removal of welds
If your goal is a mirror finish, you may want your fabrication to look its best, so you will need to remove the welds. If you do not need to remove the welds, skip to step 2.
Use the grinding disc to carefully flatten the weld without measuring or twisting the part.
Step 2: Sanding
Now that you have flattened the welds and removed any heavy manufacturing marks, it is time to bring these areas to the surface of the base product and it is time to sand the entire piece and get it ready for polishing.
A. Move the sander at a 90° angle to the scratches created in the previous step, making sure to remove the previous scratches. The original finish of the stainless steel you are fabricating will determine how long it will take you to start sanding the entire piece. Sand the fabricated areas until they reach the finish of the original plate, after this is done, you will need to start sanding the entire surface. Repeat each next step.
The higher the mirror finish you want, the more you will need to sand. From this point of view, the higher you sand, the better the mirror finish you will get. The next steps take longer to sand each grit to get a perfect surface.
Step 3: Polishing
Wow! Now you should be all done sanding and ready to polish!
Grab your sander with a clean buffing mop, apply some polish to the mop on a slow setting, and polish!
For best results.
- Clean the surface before sanding - this will reduce the chance of particles becoming embedded in the metal and will also allow your abrasive to last longer and have a faster removal rate.
- After removing the weld, the first sanding should follow the direction of the original metal grains to blend with the weld.
- At each subsequent stage of sanding, move in a direction 90° to the direction of the previous sanding. This will ensure that all scratches are removed.
- Always use a clean polishing mop. If more than one polish is used, clean the structure between polishes with a cleaner and a clean rag, and use a clean mop for each polish.
