Carbon steel is one of the most basic and common steel materials, playing an important role in both industry and daily life. It is a steel alloy composed mainly of iron and carbon. The carbon content of carbon steel is usually between 0.02% and 2.1% (the specific content varies according to the demand for different types of carbon steel). Due to its low cost, good processability and high strength, carbon steel is widely used in many fields such as construction, manufacturing, machinery, transportation, etc.

At JMJDWX STEEL, we offer the following Carbon Steel product options:

- Carbon Steel Sheet & Plate

Carbon Steel Coil

Carbon Steel Pipe & Tube

Classification of carbon steel:

Carbon steel is usually divided into the following types according to the carbon content:

Low carbon steel (0.02% - 0.3% carbon content)

Also known as mild steel, it has good plasticity and toughness and is easy to process and weld.

Commonly used in the manufacture of structural parts, car bodies, building materials, etc.

It has low strength, but good plasticity and ductility.

Medium carbon steel (0.3% - 0.6% carbon content)

It has good strength and hardness, and is slightly harder than low carbon steel, but has relatively poor plasticity and toughness.

Commonly used in the manufacture of mechanical parts, automotive parts, tools, etc.

High carbon steel (0.6% - 2.1% carbon content)

High strength and hardness, but poor toughness, brittleness, and difficult to process.

Main uses include manufacturing tools, knives, springs, parts with high hardness requirements, etc.

Main characteristics of carbon steel:

High strength

As the carbon content increases, the strength of the steel increases, but the plasticity decreases. High carbon steel has good hardness and wear resistance in particular.

Good machinability:

Carbon steel is relatively easy to process and can be formed by cold working, hot working, welding, etc.

Affordable:

Carbon steel has a relatively low cost and is widely used in many industries due to the popularity of its raw materials and processing technology.

Toughness and corrosion resistance: As the carbon content increases, the toughness of carbon steel usually decreases, especially high carbon steel. However, low carbon steel usually has good toughness, but poor corrosion resistance, and requires surface treatment to improve corrosion resistance.

Applications of carbon steel:

Building structures: Used to manufacture steel structures, rebars, steel pipes, etc.

Machinery manufacturing: Used to manufacture machine parts, tools, gears, etc.

Automobile industry: used for automobile body, frame and other parts.

Pipeline and transportation: used for manufacturing pipelines, oil and gas pipelines, water supply pipelines, etc.

Daily necessities: Carbon steel is also commonly used to manufacture pots, knives, springs, etc.
